Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to describe the process of community empowerment through the ikat weaving craft program at the Kelompok Tenun Kube Flamboyan (KTKF) in RT 01, Bello Village, Maulafa District, Kupang City. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The main theory employed is Jim Ife's community empowerment theory, analyzed through four perspectives: pluralist, elitist, structuralist, and post- structuralist. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The results show that the community empowerment process through the ikat weaving program at KTKF has been running well, especially in aspects of learning weaving skills, economic improvement, and cooperation with elites such as the local government. However, some aspects such as the development of lobbying skills and the use of media for political action have not been fully implemented. The structuralist and post-structuralist perspectives indicate that no significant structural inequality occurred among members, and the program emphasized practical aspects more than intellectuality. The conclusion of this research is that the ikat weaving craft program has empowered the community, particularly in improving skills and economic welfare, although optimization is still needed in several empowerment aspects according to Jim Ife's theoretical framework.
